"Funny" How God Works

Thursday, October 25, 2007

So tonight I was feeling kinda bad for myself...feeling lonely...missing home...missing my family and my friends...and then the doorbell rings. It's my neighbor with 2 loafs of banana bread and some chocolate cookies and a card who said she was thinking of us and wanted us to know that she's glad we're her neighbors.

Then tonight, we were invited to go to a couple's house for a Bible study (a friend of Kent's from high school and his wife)...it was such a refreshing evening. There were about 12 of us total. Praying together, reading the Bible together, talking together, laughing together...it was a much needed, life-giving evening.

"Funny" how God works - the same day I'm feeling lonely and like no one cares, we have a neighbor stop by with food and a card and have some wonderful Christian fellowship with young couples our age.

Church's...

Church...church's fellowship groups...church's worship teams...church's staff members...and oh, yeah, Church's Chicken.

Funny Bumpersticker

Saw this on a bumper sticker yesterday.

"I'd rather push a Ford than drive a Chevy."

It made me laugh. :)

Seeing Double

Tuesday, October 16, 2007

Tonight I was going to go to dinner with my in-laws...and this is what we saw. A beautiful double rainbow! It completely covered the sky (too big to get into one picture - so here's three). :) I've seen glimpses of double rainbows, but these were 100% whole - one brighter than the other, but the other faintly there, too. Breathtaking!

It's a Boy!!!

Saturday, October 13, 2007

Very early this morning (around 1:45, to be exact - Michigan time) and after two epidurals for Kelly, my nephew, Blake Calvin, came to say hello to us. :) He is a beautiful 9 lbs 1 oz and 21.5 inches.

My proud brother and his baby boy.

Baby Blake...oh so handsome!

An exhausted - but beautiful - Kelly and proud big brother, Jared.

God is good all the time. All the time, God is good!

(for more pictures and some video, check this out from my sister's blog.)

I've Been Tagged

Tuesday, October 09, 2007

So I've been tagged by Sassy Sara - thanks a bunch, sis. ;)

The rules.
1. You have to post these rules before you give the facts.
2. You must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had. 3. At the end of your blog post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag. Don’t forget to leave a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog for the rules.

My middle name: Dawn

D - Discovering. I am in a very new chapter of my life in which I am discovering more of who I am as an individual and as a wife, what I am capable of and, better yet, who God is helping me become through challenges and exposure to a lot of newness.

A - Attentive. Being in a new and different place often causes one to pay attention to one's surroundings - both the positives and the negatives of living in a small town. One negative out here is the amount of rain. As I was talking with Kent the other day, I was thinking:
- WA probably has a lot of coffee shops because when it rains and is cold, people want to go somewhere to warm up with something hot to drink.
- Grunge music originated in WA
- There are more Atheists here than in almost any other state.
Hmmm...is this just a coincidence that this is the state that has some of the most constant rain showers in the nation? I think not.

(I'll let you, my dear readers, imagine what the other negatives might be). As for the positives, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. This morning, Kent and I saw one of the most beautiful sunrises ever...with the mountains in the foreground. Absolutely amazing. And the place where I am teaching is incredibly supportive.

W - Working. I started my first full-time (paid!) position at a Christian high school as a Spanish teacher. As a first-year teacher, I definitely put in long hours: early mornings, late nights...little sleep. However, I am loving my job, enjoying my students, and attempting to tackle the challenges in front of me in the rest of this year.

N - Nostalgic. There are a lot of things I miss from back home and think of often: chatting with friends over coffee, playing with my nieces and nephew and reading them books, talking with my mom and my sister for hours upon hours, seeing my sister-in-law go through the last months/weeks/days of her pregnancy and feeling the baby move, hugs from my big brother, laughing because of my brother-in-law and his humor, talking to my dog Shadow in that I'm-talking-to-my-pet-now voice (pet owners - you know what I'm talking about), places I loved to go, restaurants I loved to eat in, worshiping and communing with my church family, the vast array of fall colors on the leaves, going for a walk with my dad to the river to look at the thousands of maple trees in all their fall brilliance, Jackie's homemade applesauce, worshiping at LOFT, etc., etc., etc.

Ok...your turn, my lovely fellow bloggers. I am tagging Kent, Deborah, Sonny (sorry, Sara...she's my sister, too...so let's just say that her post counts for us both, k? :) and Bethany. Have fun! :)

Happy Birthday to...

Monday, October 01, 2007

Sonny...my sister. I love you very much, Sonny. We've been through a lot together - a lot of fun and craziness...and a lot of tears and hurts. I couldn't have asked for a better sister or a better friend. I love you SO much and pray that you have/had a great birthday filled with much love and many blessings!

And the Winner Is...

LC! 36-6...a complete blow out.

Does a teacher proud. :)
