Valentine's Day Surprise

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

I got home from school on Friday to find a box on our front step. I open it up, and this is what I found...

(Apparently the guy who typed out this message didn't know how to spell 'Valentine' - but that didn't take away from the beauty of this gift.)

This is probably one of the most meaningful gifts I've ever received for Valentine's Day...it totally made my week!

Valentine's Day Fun

(Check out that form! My dad would be proud.)

Neither one of us has bowled in over 5 years so, needless to say, we did horrible! BUT, it was fun nonetheless. :)
Bowling was followed by dinner at the Olive Garden and a run to Best Buy to check out TVs. Random, but fun.

Back in MI: Symposium and My Fam

Sunday, February 08, 2009

I recently visited my home state of Michigan to go to the Calvin College Worship Symposium and, let's be honest, to see my family (I'll take any opportunity to go see them, even if it's only for 2 days!).

Our high school received a grant, along with 24 other high schools, to send two students, the worship coordinator of the students (myself), the principal and another staff person or local pastor to learn more about worship - more specifically worship in the high school setting - and to chat with other high schools to see what they are doing. Although I was sick the entire time I was there, it was AMAZING to be at the Symposium again (and not be working at it), to be refreshed, to see Calvin friends and professors, and to be a part of the Calvin community again - I have missed it. Kent was able to be there as well on behalf of our church.

While we were there, we had a WA reunion (Worship Apprentice) with a couple members from each of the 7 years of having WAs, as well as the people who started the LOFT service and were a part of leading worship before the WA program began. It was great fun to meet all the different people who have so much in common through the unique experience of being a WA. What a blessing!

Here's a picture from the closing communion service at the Worship Symposium:

After the closing service, Kent and I went to stay with my mom. Kent left the next day. I stayed for two days. It was SO good to be home...but it wasn't long enough. I miss my family. I miss the chats with my mom and my sister. I miss seeing my brother play all crazy-like with my nieces and nephews on the floor. I miss being crazy with my nieces and nephews. I feel like I miss too much living so far away from them...but God knows what he's doing. Our life is good out in Washington. We are blessed. We know we are supposed to be here for this season of our lives. For the rest, we wait on God and continue living life as he calls us to live it day by day.
Here are some pics from my time with my fam:

Sonny helping Faith with her piano lessons. I got to help her, too - it was special for me to be a part of that.

Faith and Bella...my crazy girls! :)

Bella with Grandma.

It's no spider man costume but, nonetheless, the beginning of something good. :)

Me and my girls...they (as well as my boys) bring me great joy...and I miss them.
