Almost Time to Say Good-bye
So Kent and I are leaving Guatemala in 4 days - where has the time gone?!? We definitely have mixed emotions. We are both really ready to see our families and to start a routine (routine?? what's that???), however, we have made some wonderful friendships here that will be very difficult to leave.
Friends from El Mensaje de Vida:
- Roldolfo, Anamiriam and their three kids: Roldolfo, Louisa, Andrea (and dog, Roy :)
- Summer, Maynor and their baby Alex
- Wesley
- Suaso and the other instrumentalists and singers who Kent and I had the privilege of playing/singing with, talking with, and learning from
- Howard and Heidi and their 3-year old daughter Eliet
- Gabi
- Rosmarí and her 2 kids
- Otto and his wife
- Joel and Martita (our landlords)
- Joel and Karla (son and daughter-in-law of our landlords)
Roy :)

Summer, Maynor and Alex
Friends from the Liderazgo Juvenil:
- Marvin and his sister Karina
- Cody (Marvin’s summer intern)
- Yolanda - the wonderful and incredibly sweet housekeeper
And other very special friends we've met through various ministries:
- Joel and Marilyn VD and their two kids: Joelito and Sophia (Estrategía de Transformación)
- Tita and Monica (Plantío de Jehová - La Limonada)
- Evelyn, Jaqueline, Fernando, Lucky, Alejandra, Katerín, Rosita, Rosario, and many more (kids from La Limonada)
- Ignacio and Shorty (prison chaplains for the 18th Street Gang members in Primitivo and Chimaltenango)
- Juan Carlos (runs special programs for the prisons and, basically, the reason why we were allowed to visit the prisons)
- Scorpion, Diego, Smiley, Little Fatty, Abuelo (“Grandpa”), Jonathan, Jorge, and many others (inmates at the prisons)
- Hítalo (leader of street ministry to young people)
- Alicia, Abby, Liz, Gari, Tigre, Cristina, Adriana (translators)
- Q, PK, Ottis, Inacia, Cory, Maya, Sam, T, and the rest of the group from Arts in the Hood, Denver CO (who left about a week ago - we already miss them!)
- Ryan (came with Maranatha’s group; hung out with us and was our guide the 2nd time we went to Antigua)
- Daniel (from FL)
- Rudy (our very dependable taxi driver and ex-MS13 gang member, now a Christian!)

Kent and Samaka: the Beige and Brown Brothers :)
Of course, this is only a fraction of the people we have met since coming to Guatemala, and each person – especially the ones we have listed above – have made our experience one of immense shaping, forming, reflecting, and spiritual growth. We hate to say good-bye when we are just getting started making deeper relationships…but, we have certain responsibilities to get back to like catching up with my family, packing, moving cross-country, moving into our new home, teaching, seminary-ing, and everything in between.
But in the meantime, we are going to enjoy every last minute of our time here while we still can.
