attempting to slow down and take in a bit more of my life and what's going on around me

4 + 4 = a part of God's big plan

Yesterday my niece Faith turned 4 years old. A very fun and crazy age, to say the least! Faith is full of life, spunky, and has a beautiful smile and big blue eyes that sparkle like crazy when she gets excited about something (or when she's being a little mischievous!). It was so fun see her last night running on the balloon-covered floor wearing a cheerleader outfit, headphones from her new C.D. player, listening to one of her new kid's praise C.D.'s, and talking extra loud because of it.

And then I think...what would it be like if she wasn't here? Medically, she wasn't supposed to be.

My sister and her husband, like millions of couples around the world, struggled with infertility for 4 long years. Doctor appointment after doctor appointment, vitamins, fertility shots, etc seemed to all lead to disappointment and more tears of frustration. If that wasn't hard enough, they got pregnant twice and ended up miscarrying both babies in the first trimester. And if THAT wasn't heartwrenching enough, we found out soon after my sister's second miscarriage that her husband was diagnosed with cancer - a type of sarcoma. Our family is pretty close, so when one member hurts, we all hurt. We knew deep down that God was sovereign...but the pain cut so deep and the questions grew so numerous that it began hard to hold onto faith. It is now evident that while all this was going on, God was holding onto us the whole time and remaining ever faithful.

Now as Faith (notice her name) runs around and jabbers away, I can't help but stand in awe of God's faithfulness. Doctors work hard and know their stuff...but they have nothin' on the power of God! Faith's daddy has been cancer-free for 5 years now...a huge number for people who have had cancer. And about a year an a half ago, God was gracious and added another little blessing to the family: Bella Grace.

Great is thy faithfulness, Great is thy faithfulness,
Morning by morning new mercies I see,
All I have needed thy hand hasth provided,
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!
